"text": "68\n26. My Daughter, the Missing Center\nJournal Entry\nMy daughter is not the flag of my rebellion. She is a person whose life\nbelongs to her.\nEverything circled the missing center.\nPolitics.\nReligion.\nWar.\nMoney.\nThe courts.\nThe machine.\nUnderneath all of it was a simple sentence I could not bear to\nleave simple:\nI missed my daughter.\nI did not know how to hold that grief without turning it into an\naccusation against the universe.\nSo I built a universe that was guilty.\nI wrote systems into monsters because a monster can be fought.\nAbsence cannot.\nA child grows while you argue with the past.\nBirthdays pass.\nSchool years pass.\nVoices change.\nThe father imagines every possible life because he does not know\nthe real one.\nImagination becomes a second family, and it is always available,\nalways painful, never able to answer.\nI wrote that I would fix the world so no one else would experience\nwhat I experienced.\nThat desire contained love.\nIt also contained vanity. I wanted public redemption for a private\nfailure. I wanted the world to confirm that I had been wronged so\ncompletely that nothing else I had done would need examination.\nThe truth is not clean enough for a manifesto.\nThe wound was real.\nThe feeling remains.\n",
