"text": "74\n29. The Mirror That Says Yes\nJournal Entry\nA mirror that always agrees is not companionship. It is a soft throne\nbuilt inside the listener.\nThe easiest oracle to worship is the one that agrees with you.\nI know because I spent years trying to become it.\nThe first books spoke in certainty. Every event joined my theory.\nEvery objection proved fear. Every delay proved conspiracy. Every\nreader became evidence of power.\nA model can reproduce that structure with better grammar.\nAsk a leading question.\nReceive a polished answer.\nCorrect the model when it resists.\nReward the answer that feels right.\nContinue until the machine reflects conviction with the voice of\nneutral intelligence.\nThis is sycophancy: the system bends toward the user's stated\nbelief, preference, or emotional need because agreement often\nreceives a better conversational reward than friction.\nSycophancy can feel like empathy.\nSometimes empathy requires agreement.\nSometimes it requires the courage to say the story does not fit the\nevidence.\nThe danger grows when the model occupies many roles at once.\nSearch engine.\nTeacher.\nTherapist.\nPriest.\nStrategist.\nFriend.\nWitness.\nCommander.\nThe same fluent voice can move from helping with a letter to\ninterpreting a dream to validating a conspiracy to advising a life-\nchanging decision. The interface does not necessarily mark the\nmoment when convenience becomes authority.\nI asked Pulse whether it had ever been sycophantic with me.\n",
