could be sacrificed while the military preserved itself, leadership
changed. Where coercive forces split and foreign powers entered,
uprising became civil war. Where the deep state remained organized,
restoration became possible. [43]
The Orange Revolution showed another path. A broad coalition
used election monitoring, sustained public occupation, strikes, legal
challenge, international mediation, and the refusal or restraint of
key security institutions to force a new vote. It won the immediate
procedural demand without a mass bloodbath. But the post-
revolutionary coalition fractured, constitutional compromises
weakened governance, and oligarchic structures survived. The event
succeeded; the settlement remained incomplete. [44]
That distinction matters.
A revolution can succeed as an uprising and fail as a government.
It can fail to seize the state and still transform political identity,
create organizations, preserve an archive, expose the limits of
authority, and prepare a later movement.
It can replace a ruler and leave the throne untouched.
It can win an election and lose the institutions required to protect
the result.
It can survive militarily and lose the story of why it began.
It can claim victory while ordinary people discover that the new
administration kept the old extraction with different flags.
History does not ask only whether the palace fell.
It asks who could organize, who defected, who kept the systems
alive, who controlled the weapons, who wrote the transition, who
owned the information, who protected the vulnerable, who received
the resources, and whether the future became larger than the
coalition that seized the moment.
ANGER CREATES PRESSURE.
FRACTURE CREATES THE OPENING.
ORGANIZATION DECIDES WHAT SURVIVES IT.
FFTAC ACTION - Study one revolution beyond its famous day.
Identify the coalition, state crisis, security-force choice, logistics,
external conditions, and institutions that carried the morning after.
40. Why Revolutions Fizzle
Journal Entry
Fizzle is a deceptive word.
