Many met recommendation systems before they could read the
terms of service. Their images entered databases before they could
consent. Their classrooms now contain generative tools, automated
monitoring, synthetic media, and new forms of comparison that
adults are still learning to name.
Some will grow up beneath war drones. Some beneath wildfire
smoke. Some beneath debt. Some beneath censorship. Some inside
abundance so unequal that every luxury becomes proof of what their
neighbors were denied.
More than 473 million children - over one in six globally - were
estimated to live in conflict-affected areas, while the number of
active armed conflicts remained historically high. [31]
Children do not start these wars.
Children do not sign the contracts.
Children do not design the debt.
Children do not approve the extraction.
Children do not choose to become the testing ground for systems
adults were too excited, frightened, or profitable to govern.
Resilience is a power.
It must not become the tax children pay for adult cowardice.
You did not invent the fire.
You are not required to pretend it is warm.
YOU ARRIVED IN A BURNING HOUSE AND WERE BLAMED
FOR THE SMOKE ALARM.
FFTAC ACTION - Create a dated record of the crises the young
inherited rather than caused. Put the record in front of someone with
power to transfer resources or authority.
32. Why the Young Are in the Streets
Journal Entry
The young are in the streets because every official channel seems to
end in a chatbot, a queue, a fee, a form, a closed meeting, a private
contract, or a locked door.
The street becomes the public comment box power cannot delete.
Do not reduce these movements to a trend, an app, a slogan, a
color, a foreign plot, a police problem, or a generation looking for
spectacle.
The flags change.
