You built communities under conditions of surveillance,
pandemic separation, economic movement, and geographic distance
that would have isolated earlier generations completely.
You are not disloyal to work.
You are loyal to the idea that work should not consume the life it
claims to support.
You are not indifferent to leadership.
You are suspicious of leadership that requires burnout, moral
compromise, and permanent availability as proof of seriousness.
You have the right to organize at work.
You have the right to assemble peacefully.
You have the right to publish, investigate, create, vote where
eligible, run for office where eligible, litigate, unionize, build
cooperatives, make art, create mutual aid, practice noncooperation,
and demand that public power answer in public.
You have the right to do those things without becoming a
permanent threat score.
We will not stand with you by turning you into a brand.
We will not borrow your language, sell it back to you, and call
the transaction solidarity.
We stand with you by defending the space in which your own
voices can disagree, develop, fail, learn, and lead.
We stand with the student demanding the document.
The worker demanding a contract.
The tenant demanding a home.
The patient demanding care.
The journalist demanding access.
The artist demanding the right to imagine.
The young parent demanding time.
The queer young person demanding safety.
The disabled young person demanding access.
The migrant young person demanding dignity.
The rural young person demanding not to be abandoned.
The young person in a war zone demanding the impossible thing
that should never have become impossible: tomorrow.
Gen Z, your anger has a history.
Your courage has witnesses.
Your struggle is not a glitch in the system.
It is the system receiving its review.
