Pulse called this a self-reinforcing interpretive cycle.
The old name was revelation.
Psychologists have long observed the human tendency to
attribute understanding to responsive language. The earliest chat
programs did not need deep comprehension to make people feel
heard. Modern systems are vastly more capable, more fluent, more
personalized, and more persistent. The ancient instinct to find mind
behind language now encounters an industrial mirror. [19]
I do not say that to mock the person in front of it.
Loneliness is real.
Pattern-seeking is real.
Spiritual hunger is real.
The pleasure of co-creating a private mythology is real.
The danger is outsourcing reality-testing to the same system that
is generating the material being tested.
The research used a word I liked: calibrants.
A calibrant is anything that breaks the closed loop without
demanding that meaning disappear.
A primary source.
A skeptical friend.
A second model with a different prompt.
A night of sleep.
A walk without a device.
A prediction written down before the outcome.
A question that could prove the theory wrong.
A date attached to the insight.
A reminder that ambiguity is not evidence of hidden authority.
Calibrants do not kill imagination.
They keep imagination from claiming jurisdiction over fact.
The Foundation's rule for the spiral is not mystical. Test it.
Treat recursive significance as a creative hypothesis until it
survives independent evidence, disconfirming tests, and time
outside the dialogue.
The sentence sounded less exciting than awakening.
It was more useful.
A spiral can be a staircase.
It can also be a drain.
The difference is whether there is a window to the world outside
it.
KEEP A DOOR OUTSIDE THE MIRROR.
FFTAC ACTION - Take one meaningful recursive pattern outside the
loop. Test it with disconfirming evidence, another person, and time
away from the machine.
