The defense therefore needs layers.
Authenticated official channels.
Independent confirmation.
Preserved originals.
Public verification procedures.
Clear correction records.
Deliberate pause before irreversible action.
Multiple people authorized to challenge a disputed message.
Training that treats uncertainty as a reason to verify, not a reason
to choose whichever claim serves the mission.
Cognitive liberty includes the right to evidence.
Not a right to perfect certainty.
A right to know whether an image is original, transformed,
generated, or unknown when that can be established.
A right to see corrections attached to the claim that caused the
harm.
A right not to have authentic testimony erased by the convenient
sentence: probably AI.
When an image can lie, trust must move from the isolated
artifact to the verifiable process.
Preserve provenance. Seek corroboration. Publish methods. Record
uncertainty. Correct the record without erasing the original.
The old world said seeing is believing.
The synthetic world says seeing is a claim.
The free world must answer with something stronger than
suspicion.
It must build ways to verify without building one authority that
owns reality.
PRESERVE THE CHAIN OF TRUTH.
FFTAC ACTION - Before sharing a decisive image or recording, seek
provenance, corroboration, and context. Do not let synthetic doubt
erase authentic testimony.
